Spare us sideshows, Gor will win the title

What you need to know:

  • Looking at the bigger picture I am still convinced that we are within a reasonable distance of clinching this year’s title.
  • There are people hell bent on ensuring that some journeymen plying their trade at the SportPesa Kenyan Premier League win the league through thick and thin.

Ladies and gentlemen welcome back! It has been a well-deserved break and a lot has happened.

In far off Europe, the ‘odieros’ had their own version of football tribal clashes where contrary to all expectations, Portugal won the Euro 2016.

I am one of those who sat up late two Saturdays ago, rooting for the team that some have dubbed ‘African Union’, France, lose 1-0 in extra time to the Cristiano Ronaldo-captained side.

But I take consolation in the fact that once again I was proven right— that outfit called England cannot play football.

In fact, it has been my considered opinion that even at club level, English football is zilch. What drives the English Premier League is the glib marketing and public relations machine they have employed to market the mediocrity that is English football. More of that another day.

Zeroing in locally, I was scandalised when my beloved Gor Mahia brought in yet another failure, importing the dude all the way from Brazil. Which reminded me of another Brazilian called Rodrigues, nicknamed ‘Arodi’ by Gor Mahia fans.

The man arrived on these shores with a lot of hype and expectations. However, after a week or so of training with the team the then coach Zdravko Logarusic dismissed the man with words like “even my assistant coach Bobby Ogolla is fitter than this man.” Arodi quietly faded from the scene.

WALKING SCANDAL

However, if reports reaching me are true, then it seems this latest Brazilian is a walking scandal.

How do you explain stories swirling around that even after spectacularly failing on the pitch the man has been given a dream come true contract? I only hope that the rumours remain just that — rumours.

Otherwise looking at the bigger picture I am still convinced that we are within a reasonable distance of clinching this year’s title.

From where I sit, it seems like there are some people hell bent on ensuring that some journeymen plying their trade at the Sportpesa Kenyan Premier League win the league through thick and thin.

My advice to such charlatans is this: being awarded dubious penalties, deducting points from Gor and other shenanigans will not work against us. We are defiantly Gor Mahia and we have never— and will never— be intimidated.

As you play your cloak and dagger games, we prove ourselves where it matters — on the pitch.

So go ahead and award as many dubious penalties as you wish. We are coming for you!
