All is not lost for Ingwe this season

What you need to know:

  • Speaking at a frigate function with Huawei’s senior executives two days before the Ingwe-K’Ogalo derby, Mudavadi pleaded that despite the harsh economic times at the club, we still maintained a respectable position on the league table.
  • Like our very own Logarusic maintains, one cannot purport to be a top notch striker with only only two goals to his name the entire season. Sadly, the trio has scored four goals between themselves this season.

Ingwe’s former long serving patron Musalia Mudavadi couldn’t have captured the situation at the club.

Speaking at a frigate function with Huawei’s senior executives two days before the Ingwe-K’Ogalo derby, Mudavadi pleaded that despite the harsh economic times at the club, we still maintained a respectable position on the league table.

Indeed, life has been very kind to Ingwe. A combination of factors have conspired to ensure that we maintain a top five position on the league standings.

One aspect we at Ingwe will have to accept and live with for the rest of the season is our lack of quality strikers. Even the most sentimental Ingwe fan, and I’m one of them, must accept that Michael Khamati, Lamin Diallo and Patrick Kagogo are not the type of strikers to challenge the K’Ogalos of this world for the league title this season.

Like our very own Logarusic maintains, one cannot purport to be a top notch striker with only only two goals to his name the entire season. Sadly, the trio has scored four goals between themselves this season.

These are the sort of statistics that cost one Danny Welbeck his spot at Manchester United last summer. Head coach Luis Van Gaal could just not stand a striker with one goal a whole season. Welbeck had to find refuge at perennial under achievers Arsenal.

Given our problems, Ingwe may not afford the luxury of showing the likes of Khamati, Diallo and Kagogo the door despite their obvious inadequacies. We are better off counting on Bernard Mang’oli, Jackson Saleh and even youngsters like Duncan Otieno for goals for the time being.

Regardless, we must all encourage the boys to finish in a respectable position this terrible season. The optimist in me believes we can still edge out Tusker and even Sofapaka and finish in the top three bracket this season.

It is a feat we must all work towards, notwithstanding the tough economic times we are facing as a club. I’ve said before that we must appreciate the efforts loyal Ingwe fans are putting in to ensure that the boys are provided for.

I must single out the efforts of one Bob Roberts Okodde who has consistently dug deep into his pockets to ensure that the boys live comfortably. If not for Bob, some of the boys could not have managed to reach home after the aborted K’Ogalo derby. It is the likes of Bob, and many others who have ensured that the boys have bus fare to attend training regularly. We must never take this kind gestures for granted.

I must salute our interim treasurer Pamela Lutta too, for offering her own resources, Sh1.5 million to clear part of the outstanding salaries only last week.
I keep on praying that the talks between Mudavadi and Huawei’s top brass will come to fruition sooner rather than later.
