Everything to fight for as Red Devils host Liverpool
The dust settled after last weekend’s league showdowns when the Gunners redeemed themselves from their seemingly self-inflicted malaise by hammering seven goals into the net of a bewildered Blackburn side.
It was sweet revenge for Arsenal since the same Blackburn side had thrashed them four three in the first round of their encounter.
Manchester City also continued the title run by clinching a win but it was the Chelsea vs United fight that left some fans sighing with relief or complaining bitterly about the state of refereeing in the EPL.
United got two rather contrived penalties to save them from an imminent humiliation by the Blues at the Bridge.
They had already conceded three great goals when the two penalties and a late “Chicharito” header put them level.
To the Red Devil fans, it was a sigh of relief and refusal to concede that the penalties were questionable.
They are right since the goals stood and they got a point from the jaws of defeat.
Those who still loudly argue about them are doing nothing but disturbing the wind with unnecessary howls.
Before the match, United had come level with their City rivals at the top of the league tables and they desperately needed a win to catch up with the Citizens who had already won their duel and flew three points ahead.
In the end a draw was just as sweet as a win (considering that they had to climb from three nil up).
This weekend the devils find themselves nestled with the Kop! It is interesting to note that these two teams are of a fermented rivalry that has brewed for decades.
This liquor is so potent such that considerations of home ground don’t have to come up.
The two have met twice this season and none of them left unscathed.
In the first leg of the season, United travelled to Anfield and the match ended in a deserved stalemate of one apiece.
It was a match full of drama and accusations of race abuse between Patrice Evra and the Liverpool ace Louis Suarez the Uruguayan.
Suarez was later to be banned for eight matches by the English FA which cost Liverpool a lot for lack of his services.
This weekend the bad boy will be back again to hassle the Red Devils encore. This of course will be the much awaited match this weekend and it is bound to be interesting.
United were beaten 2-1 and dumped out of the FA cup by the same Liverpool side. The venue in that occasion was still Anfield.
On Saturday, it shall be at old Trafford where United must work magic if indeed they are serious about clinching the league title.
A win is a must for the Red devils. The Kop must also win or lose a position for next season’s champions’ league which is almost escaping them.
A draw will be a loss for both these braves!
