Gor Mahia needs sound leadership, not hotheaded yobs

What you need to know:

  • Supporting Gor Mahia can also be a tragic undertaking if for no any other reason but some air-headed officials who want to leave their mark on the club, whether positive or negative.
  • According to these reports, some of the new members of the technical bench, brimming with the swag of village bullies, sponsored a section of yobs to attack the assistant coach, Frank Ouna, whom they accused of misleading head coach Frank Nuttall following the club’s 1-1 draw with Tusker at Kasarani last weekend.
  • None of the newly named members of the technical bench can match the pedigree of Bobby even if they were to live 10 more lifetimes; at least if their ‘achievements’ in this lifetime is to serve as a rough guide.

A review of the movie The Fault in Our Stars reads: Based on the number one best-selling novel by John Green, The Fault in Our Stars explores the funny, thrilling and tragic business of being alive… and in love.”

The last line of the review could as well describe being a fan of what we all agree is the most exciting football team in these parts of the continent, Gor Mahia. Agreed, supporting Gor is an experience, which like climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, you can only appreciate if you get to take part.

Words alone cannot express the feeling; you must experience it to know it.

However, supporting Gor Mahia can also be a tragic undertaking if for no any other reason but some air-headed officials who want to leave their mark on the club, whether positive or negative.

Last week I said on these pages that the heavy technical bench that the club management has saddled us with will prove to be our undoing.

No sooner had the ink dried on the article than reports started seeping from the K’Ogalo homestead of fiery sibling rivalry that is threatening the club’s very soul.

According to these reports, some of the new members of the technical bench, brimming with the swag of village bullies, sponsored a section of yobs to attack the assistant coach, Frank Ouna, whom they accused of misleading head coach Frank Nuttall following the club’s 1-1 draw with Tusker at Kasarani last weekend.

Further reports on social media alleged that the same dimwits confronted John ‘Bobby’ Ogolla and threw some unsavoury words towards the club legend.

UNLEASHING ATTACK DOGS

My word to those people unleashing attack dogs on respected members of the technical bench like Bobby and Ouna is simple - work hard and earn a name for yourself.

And if earning a name to you means having some school dropouts attack fellow officials then you too are an idiot who has no business being in a position of responsibility at Gor Mahia. None of the newly named members of the technical bench can match the pedigree of Bobby even if they were to live 10 more lifetimes; at least if their ‘achievements’ in this lifetime is to serve as a rough guide.

That said, what ails Gor at the moment, apart from our dire financial status, is lack of leadership. Although a few individuals in the team’s management are giving the club their best, there is also a motley crew of ne’er do wells, punctured politicians as well as some people with the morals of a brothel owner who feel their weight must be felt.

With this kind of attitude, ladies and gentlemen, we might as well bid the KPL premiership goodbye.
