Meddie Kagere fittingly likened to Lwanda Magere

What you need to know:

  • Lwanda Magere was a legendary Luo warrior who used to terrorise the neighbouring Kalenjin at will.
  • We all know football is a team effort but it is also a good thing to appreciate talent.

Along came Meddie Kagere. As I promised you last week ladies and gentlemen, today I want to say a few things about the young man.

Well, if you saw the goal he scored on May 17 against Nakuru All Stars then you will appreciate why the Rwandan is a darling of the members of the Green Army.

Collecting the ball with the calm assurance of an experienced hit man, Kagere sent the crowd wild when he neatly rolled the ball past a dumbfounded goalkeeper Shayne Indimuli and placed it into the net.

To be fair to the Nakuru All Stars custodian, I don’t think anyone in his right mind can blame him. The goal was purely a master stroke.

It is on that note that I have heard some K’Ogalo fans calling Kagere, wait for this — Lwanda Magere.

To refresh your memories, Lwanda Magere was a legendary Luo warrior who used to terrorise the neighbouring Kalenjin at will.

Legend has it that his powers lay in his shadow and when the killing became too much, the conniving Kalenjins gave him a pretty lass who learnt of his secrets finally leading to his death.

In the meantime if Kagere can terrorise our opponents the way he is doing now I find no fault in him being called Lwanda Magere. Of course we all know football is a team effort but it is also a good thing to appreciate talent.

SAVE CAPTAIN

Away from Gor Mahia, two things happened at our sorry looking neighbour’s den that are worth mentioning.

First was the very touching story of AFC Leopards captain Martin Imbalambala almost getting thrown out of a flat for failure to pay rent.

The matter made it to social media and within no time football fans from both Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards decided to act and save the young man.

It was heartwarming to see diehard Gor fans like Roselinder Achieng leading from the front to save a guy in a bad situation. This, ladies and gentlemen, is why we are always mashemeji.

The other piece of good news from the Ingwe den was the resignation of Allan Kasavuli as the chairman of AFC Leopards. On this one I want to congratulate my editor at Nation Allan Buluku and my good friend Peter Leftie.

I can confidently say that the two gentlemen sustained a serious campaign against the outgoing chairman.

Not that they had anything personal against Kasavuli. It is only that it pains the heart when you see a club with such a huge following like Ingwe being run like some village wrestling team. All because of incompetence.
