Referees need to step up their game

What you need to know:

  • As I said here last week, there seems to be a deliberate plot to have this year’s league going a certain way.
  • A appeal to Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa and SportPesa boss Ronald Karauri— rein in the referees.
  • It seems that after we lost Khalid Aucho we have not found a player who can step up and fill the void.

What is wrong with Kenyan referees? Or maybe it is about time we started importing the men in middle? I think this is something we need to do as a matter of urgency. Reason? Referees leave a lot to be desired.

Take last weekend for example. When Gor Mahia played that hopeless team called Ushuru, the tax collectors spent the better part of the match lying on the ground, and the referee just watched.

When I read comments by Gor Mahia assistant coach Tom Ogweno I readily agreed.

“It is very unfortunate that we still have teams that employ such tactics. Football is a game to enjoy not for players to lie on the pitch, feigning injuries,”

Ogweno was quoted saying. “Such antics are a disgrace to Kenyan football. Anyway, we just have to accept the result and focus on our next match.”

As I said here last week, there seems to be a deliberate plot to have this year’s league going a certain way. I must commend the Green Army for maintaining their cool despite obvious provocations. But tell the referees that we cannot guarantee that forever.

REIN IN THE REFEREES

This is my appeal to two gentlemen who have influence in Kenyan football the Football Kenya Federation Nick Mwendwa and SportPesa boss Ronald Karauri—rein in the referees. All we want is fair play. At the end of the day, we need good football.

And now to our beloved Gor Mahia. It seems that after we lost Khalid Aucho we have not found a player who can step up and fill the void. Our last two matches showed this glaring absence.

I hope the technical bench are working hard to get another Aucho— a man who covers the backline with a no-nonsense attitude. I believe we have such a boy in our junior team. And if we don’t maybe we can shop around in the league.

I know there are more than enough boys in the league who would want to don our green jersey. I mean, how does a player go through life without playing for Gor Mahia?

And finally guys we have another corporate social responsibility, the AFLEWO run, that is coming up soon. I expect us to be present there. For those who want to participate, look for the deputy secretary general Anima Ferrari Oketch or Lizzy Yogo. Let’s go and run guys.
