Sorry haters, league title ours to lose

What you need to know:

  • On the terraces, no team in these necks of the wood can hold a candle to the braggadocio of the K’Ogalo supporters.
  • Operating under the mantra “Football Beyond the Stadium” the Green Army has engaged in many CSR activities which can make any top corporate turn green - see the word again- with envy.

This is what I love about Gor Mahia- we lead not only in the pitch but on the terraces and away from the stadium.

It is an open secret that we started the league on a wrong footing - quite literally - and our sorry looking neighbours at the Den led by the Jehovah Wanyonyi heir apparent Peter Leftie were shouting all over the rooftops how Gor Mahia is headed on the long winding path to perdition. Look who’s laughing now.

I am repeating it here again - this year’s league title is ours to lose.

On the terraces, no team in these necks of the wood can hold a candle to the braggadocio of the K’Ogalo supporters better known as the Green Army.

If it is singing we can out sing any of the pitiful supporters of our so called bitter rivals.

If it is beauties, we have them by the bagful, and if it is standing against intimidation, we are in a class of our own.

Now look at one of the biggest news that happened in the country this past weekend, the Mater Heartrun.

SHOW STOPPERS

There were many teams - the corporates, the individuals and the curious types all lined up to take part in what the race organisers have dubbed “Touch a Child’s Heart”.

And then there was the Green Army and as usual, we took to the stumps in the premier run.

As is expected, the K’Ogalo supporters were the show stoppers.

If you saw the number of people just tagging along singing and dancing with the Gor supporters during the Saturday race you would be forgiven if you asked to apply to be a member of the Green Army.

With the official T-shirts of the Run mimicking our own green jerseys, the integration of Gor supporters and the other runners was seamless. As Bronze sponsors of the Run, I am proud of what my fellow supporters achieved.

I am very sure the organisers of the event find in the Gor supporters esteemed customers whose presence will always be cherished.

But that is not all. Operating under the mantra “Football Beyond the Stadium” the Green Army has engaged in many CSR activities which can make any top corporate turn green - see the word again- with envy.

Through the Gor Mahia Fans Foundation, these cool guys have been making annual visits to the children’s oncology ward at the Kenyatta National Hospital, running in the Stanchart Marathon, and donating kits for senior and junior team, among many others.
