We, the Green Army, will let the sleeping cats lie

What you need to know:

  • I even went ahead to mention the names of my good friends who have been reduced to crying and gnashing of teeth in the name of supporting Ingwe
  • Interestingly, on the very same page, the self-styled Ingwe High Priest Peter Leftie was for was once echoing my sentiments by castigating the inept busybodies who purport to run the club

A famous Somali proverb goes thus: I and Somalia against the world. I and my clan against Somalia. I and my family against the clan. I and my brother against the family. I against my brother.

According to my friends who are well acquainted with the language of our brothers from the northern part of the country and the neighbouring Somalia, what the proverb says in essence is that although we can have our own internal differences with our brothers, it is strictly forbidden from outsiders to poke their noses into our domestic affair or else we will unite and fight the meddlers.

This message was brought to me in full force when in my last week’s article I decided to mourn the woes betiding our noisy neighbours at the den, officially registered by the name of All Footballers Co-operative (AFC) Leopards.

In my article, I wondered what ails Ingwe. Which was a well- intended statement, going by the time-honoured edict of being your brother’s keeper. I even went ahead to mention the names of my good friends who have been reduced to crying and gnashing of teeth in the name of supporting Ingwe.

ONSLAUGHT
However, the good folks of the Ingwe Nation went hammers and tongs at me, claiming I had besmirched their club’s good name. The Ingwe cyber warriors took to Facebook to warn me to keep away from their beloved club, adding the rider that my own Gor Mahia is not even guaranteed of retaining the title.

The onslaught was sparked by a Leopards’ diehard Osinde JF Ken who accused me of wasting this newspaper’s space badmouthing Ingwe “yet even his (my) Gor’s title defence remains in abeyance.”

This opened a floodgate with a good number accusing me of – to borrow a local political parlance – working with enemies of development to destroy their club. However, there were others, like Peter Masengeli, who concurred with me.

Interestingly, on the very same page, the self-styled Ingwe High Priest Peter Leftie was for was once echoing my sentiments by castigating the inept busybodies who purport to run the club.

However, being a firm believer in the Bible, I took comfort in the piece of scripture where Paul, writing to his apprentice Timothy, says: For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine.

LACK OF COMMITTMENT

Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear (2 Timothy 4:3).

All in all, it was a very lively and engaging banter and I hope to meet those good Ingwe supporters when, as Green Army, we will turn up in large numbers to cheer Ingwe against Sofapaka, one of our main threats to the league diadem.

Writing that the club has serious problems that need to be looked into this is what Leftie said. Look at this: All (AFC official Timothy) Lilumbi is advancing is the notion that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the club apart from lack of commitment from the players!

Nothing can be further from the truth. Lilumbi’s claims are an attempt at buck-passing to justify Ingwe’s disastrous season.
