Nairobi County Boxing Association secretary, Musa Benjamin, on Thursday said: “We expect all our affiliated clubs to show up for the event organised in the memory of a former Nairobi boxer, Wangila, who gave Kenya and Africa her first Olympic boxing gold medal in the 1988 Seoul Games.
Benjamin said that weighing and medical examination will be done from 8am to 10am at the same venue. He also said that female boxers will take part in flyweight, lightweight and middle weight categories.
According to Musa, female pugilists will come from Eddy Musi Boxing Club, KENTAK, Box-Girls and Embakasi Clubs.
Wangila started his boxing career at Mbotela Social Hal.
He then moved to Dallas (Muthurwa Railway quarters) from where he joined Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) Boxing Club, before he was poached then coach of Kenya Breweries Boxing Club, Charles Anjimbi.
