Africa javelin champion Julius Yego could be the person to beat at this year’s Commonwealth Games but the Kenya record holder is taking it easy.

Yego leads Alexander Kiprotich and Julius Kiplangat in Friday’s qualifying rounds at the Hampden Park.

“I just want to qualify for the final then strategize on how I will attain a podium finish,” said Yego, who is fondly known as “YouTube man”.

Yego shaped up to the championships posting his best ever performance in the Diamond League where he finished second in Oslo in June.

Yego’s last throw was magical as he flung a season’s best 84.17m to finish behind the 2007 Osaka World Championships gold medallist, Tero Pitkämäki of Finland.

“I will do all I can to make Kenyans happy for only God will reward you,” said the 24-year-old Yego.
