Leading athletics website picks Rudisha, Jelimo as top athletes for 2012

David Rudisha and Pamela Jelimo have been named All-Athletics.com Middle-distance Runners of the Year 2012.

In Asia, the leading track and field website has picked Qatari Mohamed Al Garni and Bahraini Maryam Jamal as the top athletes while in Europe, Briton Andrew Osagie and Russian Mariya Savinova took the honours.

Osagie, a London Olympics 800 metres finalist, was in Kenya for several weeks’ training at the High Altitude Training Centre in Iten and left early last month.

In North and Central America, Nick Symmonds and Alysia Montano are the winners while in Oceania, Nick Willis with Kaila McKnight take the honours with the pick of South America being Fabiano Pecanha and Rosibel Garcia.

All-Athletics.com also announced the Distance Track Runners of 2012 with world number ones Mo Farah (Great Britain) and Tirunesh Dibaba (Ethiopia) at the top.

In Africa, the top male is Kenya’s Isaiah Koech.

In Asia, Moukhled Al Outaibi and Shitaye Eshete take the honours. (EME Newas)
