Petr Kurui, Nancy Kimaiyo reign at Chemususu race

- Chesang, who finished fifth during the 2008 Standard Chartered Nairobi Half Marathon, exhibited great resilience on the hilly course, clocking 1 hour 04:33 minutes to triumph after edging out Justus Kangogo by three seconds. Hillary Kemboi settled third in 1:04:41.
- The race rose over Sh7 million for various projects including conservation of water catchment areas around the Chemususu Dam, construction of Uzalendo School - which will cater for free education for students from poor families, establishment of a police post, and erection of a perimeter wall around the Dam and construction of an information centre.

“What counted for me is my endurance especially at the hilly sections of the race,” said Chesang, the 2013 Gabon Marathon champion. The 24-year-old Chensang’ had in May won the Limuru Half Marathon in 1:03:41.
Jackson Leleli was fourth in 1:04.56 followed by Matthew Koech 1:05:06.
The 30-year-old Nancy Kimaiyo, who won the 3,000m steeplechase title during the Kenya Police Service Championships in May, took 1:15:48 to win the women’s race, beating Beatrice Chebichii 1:16:45 and Pamella Jemeli 1:16:55 respectively.
Chesang’ and Kimaiyo got Sh100,000 each for the exploits.

Speaking during the prize presentation, Baringo governor Benjamin Cheboi said they want to help preserve the dam since it is vital in increasing access to clean and safe water to communities in the County and especially Eldama Ravine Constituency.
