In Summary

  • Kirwa bags 800m silver but no medals in women’s marathon and men’s 5,000m

Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge was fifth and Vincent Chepkok ninth.

“It was a very hard race,” Bekele said. Everybody was very strong , but I’m happy I did well. I did better. I’m the first athlete from Ethiopia to win this race at the World Championship.”
“I thought I was going to have it, but Bekele was stronger,” Lagat said. “I gave everything I had. You will see me again for a long, long time.”

Kwalia, eighth at the Beijing Olympics, was overjoyed. “I’m happy that I managed to get that high on the finish list. I was waiting for the Qatar flag but nobody gave it to me. Nobody, perhaps expected me to get a medal!” he said.

Job well done Kenya. We had technical and strategic problems in most of the races but i am sure AK will be working on that. Lets watch how some of the athletes who failed to yield in Championships will perform in Athletics Final in Sept. 12 and 13 in Greece, then we can make some statements. I hope athletics administration and Scholars are keen on this. Well Done Kenya!

Another great job by the Kenyan squad. Four gold, five silvers and two bronze is brilliant though not our best. Kirwa as in the last world's he tends to get boxed in and left fighting to find an opening in the last 100 to unleash his brilliant kick. A better placement wouldhave won delivered anotrher gold.
