Arzamasova stuns Sum to win 800m world title

Kenya’s Eunice Sum lost her World 800m title to Marina Arzamasova from Belarus as she settled for bronze at the ongoing World Championships in Beijing, China on Saturday.

With Melisa Bishop from Canada and Arzamasova on her shoulder, Sum, who led the race through the first lap at 59.08, looked behind with 300m before the Belorussian raced past her.

Arzamasova, who is the European champion, would blow past Sum with 200m to go before holding off the challenge to cruise to win in 1:58.03. Bishop settled for silver in 1:58.12.

Sum, who won at the 2013 Moscow Worlds, clocked 1:58.18 for bronze.
