Asbel Kiprop and Edwin Soi win Paris races

Kenya’s World 1,500m champion Asbel Kiprop and Edwin Soi on Saturday night posted fastest times this year with victories in 800m and 5,000m respectively at Meeting Areva, Paris, France.

France’s Pierre-Ambroise Bosse also posted his personal best of the year in a time of 1min 44.23secs.

Kiprop clocked 1:43.34, a world best this year. London Olympics silver winner Botswana’s Nijel Amos (1:43.70) was second as Cuba’s Yeimer Lopez came in third in 1:43.71.

Another Kenyan Robert Biwott finished ninth in a time of 1:45.21.

Soi ran a world best for the year in the men’s 5000m, clocking 12:59.82. Diamond Race frontrunner Yenew Alamirew of Ethiopia was second in 13:00.21.

World 10,000m bronze medallist Paul Tanui, also of Kenya, was third, setting a new PB of 13:00.53.

However, it was a bad night for Kenyan women in 3,000m steeplechase and 1,500m. World champion Milcah Chemos finished ninth in a race won by Ethiopia’s Hiwot Ayalew in a new meet record of 9:11.65 as World 1,500m bronze medallist Hellen Obiri finished third in women’s 1,500m race in 3:58.89.
