Athletics agent Federico Rosa, who is facing doping charges, on Tuesday walked to freedom after securing two Kenyan sureties ordered by the court pending hearing of his cases.

His landlord at Kaptagat in Uasin Gishu County, Mr Joseph Lesiew and a Nairobi businessman Mr Barnabas Boit, deposited sureties of Sh500,000 each that ushered Rosa to freedom.

The Gabrielle Rosa Associatti director spent Tuesday night at Industrial Area Remand Prison for the first time since he was arrested early this month. On Monday he lodged at Muthangari Police Station where he was held after failing to meet bond terms.

Mr Lesiew told the court that he has known Federico for the last ten years.

“He and his father are responsible people. They are neighbours at my farm in Kaptagat, Uasin Gishu County where I leased them a piece of land for a training camp,” Mr Lesiew told the court.

Kibera Principal Magistrate Benard Ochoi noted that the sureties were sufficient but warned the two of consequences should Federico jump bail.

“You risk losing your properties and cash if the accused fails to turn up for trial. You can also be jailed, so be warned,” the magistrate said.

Prosecutor, Mary Wangele who opposed cash bail for Federico, reminded the sureties that the accused was a foreigner.

On Monday the court has declined to release Federico’s passport.

He is facing six counts in two cases of doping. He allegedly conspired with other people to administer prohibited substance to three times Boston Marathon champion Rita Jeptoo Busienei in Eldoret in 2014 and injuring the reputation of  2001 IAAF World Youth Championships finalist Elijah Kiprono Boit between 2004 and 2008 at Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.  He has denied the charges.
