Athletics agent Federico Rosa on Wednesday told a Nairobi court Kenyan athletes’ preparations for the Olympic Games would be affected if he is not allowed to travel to Rio de Janeiro.

In an application to have his passport released by police, Rosa, who is being investigated over doping allegations, said he manages top athletes and his absence in Rio would impede their preparations.

“If I’m not allowed to travel, their performance at the Olympic Games would be affected,” Rosa stated in an affidavit.

The Italian director of the Eldoret-based Gabrielle Rosa Associati, said he is accredited by world athletics body (IAAF) and he manages 10 out of the 50 Kenyan athletes set to participate in the Rio Games next month.

He is seeking his passport to travel to the Monaco and London Diamond Leagues, Bogota Marathon and the Rio Games from July 14 to August 22.

However, the prosecution could not respond to the application and requested for one week because Rosa’s file has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The agent, who has not been formally charged, is out on a Sh300,000 cash bail.

The case will be mentioned on Thursday.
