World Cross Country silver medallist Bedan Karoki is set to make his return from injury at the Lausanne leg of Diamond League on July 9.

A tendon injury forced the medal hopeful at the World Championships, due August in Beijing, to withdraw from his Diamond League opener at the Prefontaine Classic on May 30.

Karoki, who was to field in 10,000m, also failed to defend his Gifu Seiryu Half Marathon title, the IAAF Silver Label Road Race, in Japan on May 17 due to the injury.

“The injury has healed and I am feeling much better,” said Karoki, who arrived in the country on Wednesday from his training base in Japan. “After Lausanne, I will prepare for the World Championships trials.”

The national trials for the World Championships and All Africa Games are due July 24 to 25 at the Nyayo National Stadium.

CONFIDENT

Karoki is confident that Kenya can still recapture the 10,000m world title they last won at 2001 Edmonton Worlds. Charles Kamathi was the hero in the Canadian city.

He said the Kenyan horde can upset double Olympic and World champions Mo Farah, who won at Prefontaine Classic, in the Beijing Games.

Farah pulled away on the final lap to win in a season's best time of 26min 50.97sec, beating World bronze medallist Kenya’s Paul Tanui (26:51.86) and compatriot Geoffrey Kipsang (26:52.65 ) to second and third places respectively.
