Eldoret’s Family Bank Half Marathon on this Sunday

More than 1,200 athletes are expected to take part in this year’s Family Bank Half Marathon in Eldoret this Sunday.

Family Bank managing director Peter Munyiri said registration is ongoing at their Eldoret West, Eldoret East, Kericho, Kapsabet, Nakuru and Kitale branches. However, registration can also be done from any other Family Bank branch country wide. Entry fee is Sh20.

Winners in each of the men’s and women’s half marathon categories will pocket Sh200,000 and runners-up Sh100,000.

Since its inception in 2007, the race has produced talented world beaters — including Mercy Kibarus, 2013 Brussels IAAF 12km medallist; Wilson Kipsang, 2013 Berlin Marathon champion; Moses Kigen, winner in 2009 and 2010 who went ahead to win Standard Chartered Marathon 2009 and finished in position six at the Boston Marathon. Kigen has also participated in the London Marathon.

Solomon Bushiendich, who won in 2008, participated in Amsterdam, Lille and Rotterdam marathons while Priscah Cheptoo, winner of 2009 and 2010, won the 2011 Paris Marathon, Milano (2009), Valencia (2010) and Podofa, Italy, in 2010. She was also second at the 2011 World Championship in Daegu.
