Athletics fans in Eldoret on Monday thronged various entertainment joints to watch Kenyan stars at the World Championships in Beijing.

Mandago was joined by family members of Vivian Cheruiyot, Sally Kipyego, Betsy Saina and those of steeplechase runners Conseslus Kipruto, Ezekiel Kemboi, Brimin Kipruto and Jairus Birech.

It was joy for the fans as Cheruiyot who was returning from maternity leave reclaimed the world 10,000 metres title, beating Ethiopia’s Gelete Burka. Cheruiyot’s victory was greeted with wild cheers from fans who shouted ‘Go, Kenya, Go!” throughout the race.

And when Kemboi took to the track for men’s 3,000m steeplechase final, the decibel went a notch higher. Kemboi’s wife Jane, and his two sons watched as the steeplechase king became the first man to win his specialty a record four times.
