Sum going for fourth win in London meet

World 800m champion Eunice Sum and Olympic 800m gold medallist David Rudisha will be out to prove a point at the London Grand Prix, which starts at the Olympic Stadium on Friday.

Sum, who is also the Commonwealth and Africa champion, is in search of her fourth win of the season while Rudisha will be seeking inspiration from the venue where he set the world record three years ago.

Even though Sum and Rudisha will line up tomorrow in their 800m races, their compatriots Emmanuel Kipsang, Fredrick Kiptoo and Gideon Gathimba will field in Friday’s 3,000m race that has Kenyan-born American Bernard Lagat. The race won’t count for the Series.

800m Series leader Sum, who set the Stade de France alight with a world lead of 1:56.99 at the Paris meet, goes for her fourth win of the season after her previous exploits in Shanghai and Eugene.

BROKE WORLD RECORD

Sum, the World Cup champion, faces familiar foes in Molly Ludlow and Chanelle Price from the USA. Also in the race is Hassan Sifan, who won the 1,500m races in Birmingham and Lausanne.

“My body feels good and I hope to maintain the shape at the trials, heading to the World Championships,” said Sum.

Rudisha will be making a pilgrimage to his “Theatre of Dreams,” the Olympic Stadium, for the first time since he took the arena by storm during the 2012 Olympic Summer Games.

It’s at the venue where Rudisha won the Olympic gold in a world record time of 1:40.91.

“I just don’t know how it will feel when I step there for the first time since the Olympics. I consider the place the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ and a place of good luck,” said Rudisha in a previous interview.
