IAAF has expressed satisfaction with facilities the global media will use during the World Under-18 Championships due July 12-16 at Kasarani.

IAAF media delegate Olaf Brockmann and Media Operations manager Lavinia Maffia said the media set-up will provide a convenient atmosphere for both local and international journalists who will cover the event.

Brockmann said having the press centre, press tribunal and mixed zone at one point is the best set-up will work well for the global track and field event.

Brockmann gave an example of the 2016 World Under-20 Championships in Poland where the press tribune, press centre and mixed zones were located in different places, proving cumbersome for journalists.

“The facilities for media are absolutely fantastic, and we see nothing more that needs to be done to improve the set-up,” Brockmann, who has been in Kenya for three days, said on Sunday. “I am sure many journalists will be at home with the set-up if you are to camper it to other competitions.”

Maffia agreed with Brockmann, adding that the media hotel that will be based at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies will offer a convenient set-up.

Maffia announced that media accreditation for the championships will open online mid April. Brockmann wondered why some countries had withdrawn from the championships even after getting security guarantees from the Kenyan government.

World Under-18 CEO Mwangi Muthee said his team is doing resource mobilisation.
