Jamaica's Blake captures Cayman 100m

World 100 metre champions Yohan Blake, of Jamaica, and Carmelita Jeter, of the USA, won their respective events here at the inaugural Cayman Invitational meet on Wednesday.

Blake won the men's 100m in 9.84, the second fastest time in the world this year, only behind training partner Usain Bolt's 9.82.

"Just the other day I was telling Usain that I am going to come out here to show him something," Blake said. "We are friends like that. So I just came out here tonight to execute my race properly. There are things to work on but the race was good overall."

Fellow Jamaican Michael Frater was second in 10.05 and Trinidad and Tobago's Keston Bledman third in 10.06.

On the women's side, Jeter, who struggled early to get into her rhythm, recovered to take the victory in the last five metres with a time of 11.04.

"I had a great field running with me," Jeter said. "I had some world indoor medallists in there and they definitely gave me a run."

America's Jeneba Tarmoh was second in 11.13 and Muriel Ahoure of the Ivory Coast clocked a 11.14.

In the men's 110m hurdles, Jamaican Hansle Parchment won in 13.31.

In the women's 400m, world leader Novlene Williams-Mills claimed victory in 50.35 over Jenna Martin of Canada who finished in 52.90.

In the men's 400, Chris Brown and his Bahamian teammate Ramon Brown were first and second in 45.14 and 45.48.

Jamaican Warren Weir won the men's 200m in a personal best 20.13 while Cayman Islands' Cydonie Mothersill took the women's 200m in 23.51.

Dylan Amstrong of Canada won the men's shot put with a toss of 21.15 metres. American Will Claye won the long jump with a leap of 7.97m.
