Jelagat chasing 400m medal

  • Jelagat, who won the national trials with personal best 51.78, competes in the first heat at 7.09pm (Kenyan time) but just after her counterpart Jacinter Shikanda’s heat at 7:02 over the same distance.
  • Linda Oseso will feature in the hammer qualifiers. Oseso set the national record with a throw of 59.72m in the 2012 Nationals.

National champion Maureen Jelagat leads assault in women’s 400m as six Kenyan sprinters chase the rare medal at the Hampden Park.

Jelagat, who won the national trials with personal best 51.78, competes in the first heat at 7.09pm (Kenyan time) but just after her counterpart Jacinter Shikanda’s heat at 7:02 over the same distance.

“I am not only eyeing a medal bracket performance but the national record too,” said Jelagat, who won bronze in 400m hurdles at the 2010 Africa Championships. Also in action Sunday are Tony Chirchir, Walter Moenga and Stephen Barasa who will battle it out in 100m heats. Millicent Ndoro will field in women’s 100m heats.
