Menengai Oil sponsors Kebirigo Road race

  • Friday's Kebirigo Road Race will unearth a new men’s champion as defending champion Edwin Mokua has since relocated to Japan.

Menengai Oil has come on board as a partner in Friday's 12th edition of the Kebirigo 10-kilometre Road Race in Nyamira County.

The race will start at 7am at Nyabite Market in Nyamira and will take runners past Nyamira Hospital, Nyamira County Government headquarters to the Nyamira-Kisii junction on to the finish at Kebirigo town with the prize giving ceremony scheduled for the Viongoze Senta Pastoral Centre.

“Sports is one avenue through which society can improve and in sponsoring the desks and chairs to support Nyakemincha Primary School on the fringes of the annual Kebirigo Road Race, Menengai Oil will be helping this school rise from the ashes and give the young children fresh hope,” said Menengai Oil CEO Onkar Rai, while announcing the sponsorship.

Nation Media Group is among the companies that have also supported Nyakemincha Primary School’s drive to rise from the ashes, running a mentorship projects early this year where the group also introduced the “Newspapers in Education” project at the school.

The Kebirigo race will also be celebrating the success of Dennis Kimetto, the new world marathon record holder who was discovered in the 2011 edition of the Kebirigo race where he signed with his current manager Gerard van de Veen of Netherlands-based Volare Sports.
