Peres Jepchirchir wins Nandi County cross country title

World Half Marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir on Saturday clocked 26 minutes, 36.90 seconds to win the Nandi County Cross County Championships’ women’s title.
Jepchirchir, who was using the race as a build-up for next month’s RAK Half Marathon, will scale up to the full marathon when she competes in this year’s edition of Boston Marathon in April.
“The race was tight because everyone had done their training well and we have a lot of good athletes. I was using today’s race as a build-up for my main races in February and April,” said Jepchirchir. Rose Jelimo came second in a time of 27:49.50, while Hellen Jepkorir was third in 28:08.80.
In the men’s category, Abraham Kiptum clocked 28:47.70 to win ahead of Emmanuel Bor who ran 29:09.70, while Julius Kogo timed 29:14.90 for third.
In Uasin Gishu County, Noah Kipkemboi and Jackline Cherono claimed the Athletics Kenya County Cross Country series titles.
In the 10km race, Kipkemboi won ahead of Peter Limo while David Kilimo came in third.
The women’s race was won by Jackline Cherono, followed by Aileen Jepng’etich and Susan Kiplagat respectively.
The junior men’s 8km race was won by Phoney Kipruto ahead of Nicholas Kimeli while Robert Mwei was third.
In junior women’s 6km race, Gloria Kite won, followed by Deborah Sumom, while Rebecca Sang settled for the third position.
