Kenya Ports Authority women’s basketball team start their Fiba Africa Zone Five club championships title defense against unpredictable Uganda Christian University at the Lugogo Indoor Courts from 5pm on Monday.

So tricky is the encounter that KPA experienced coach Anthony Ojukwu is preferring a wait and see situation after UCU, as they are popularly known, beat KPA by half a basket in last year’s games in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

On Sunday, Kenya Ports Authority men and Patriots from Rwanda both registered over century scores on day one of the championships.

While Patriots beat Hawasa City from Ethiopia  110-43 in a Pool A match, KPA men whipped six-man Gondar City also from Ethiopia 108 -35 in another match at the same venue.

It was indeed a bad day for Gondar City, who featured only six players after several of their members failed to get Ugandan visas in time.

They had to play the entire fourth quarter four men after two of their players accumulated five personal fouls and were ejected from the game.
