Zimbabwe national squad, which is set to play five one day international series against Kenya next month, is expected in the country on January 24.

This was confirmed by the Cricket Kenya chairman, Samir Inamdar on Monday. Zimbabwe had turned down an invitation to come this month due to their tight schedule.

Inamdar also said that his executive committee has approved a programme set out by the national team coach, Andy Kirsten, on Kenya’s preparations for the forthcoming International Cricket Council Trophy set for South Africa in April.

The coach had indicated that he wanted to use this month for players’ fitness and looked forward for the team to have nets and fielding in January.

After the ODis with Zimbabwe, the team is expected to spend two weeks in South Africa in February, training with provincial sides.

They will then return home in March and train for a fortnight, before going back to Pretoria and spend another two weeks at the High Performance Centre.

The ICC Trophy will bring together 12 associate members of ICC to fight it out for the four slots reserved for them in the 2011 World Cup to be jointly-hosted by India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

In last year’s World Cup in the Caribbean, six associates took part in the event.
