David Obuya was on Sunday awarded a new motorcycle after he was voted man-of-the-series for scoring a total of 380 runs as the Stray Lions won the 40-overs Ashnil Hotels Cricket Trophy by defeating Kanbis in the final match played at the Nairobi Simba Union Club.
Stray Lions won the match by seven wickets in Sunday’s final with David’s brother, Charles Obuya, top scoring with half a century (54 runs) while David contributed 40 for the new tournament’s champions.
Kanbis scored 145 all out off 38 overs with Stray Lions scoring 146 for in 32 overs to win the match.
Six teams took part in the six-week tournament chiefly sponsored by Ashnil Hotels.
“I’m happy that I won the man-of-the-series award,” an elated David Obuya said after taking away his brand new bike.
“It is a great coincidence as my father has been pushing me so much to buy him a motorbike and this is just the perfect gift I have for him now,” the experienced Kenya international wicket-keeper said.
