The triumphant national cricket team returned from South Africa on Monday with a piece of silverware from the inaugural Africa Cricket Association (ACA) Cup.

Kenya topped the tournament’s points table in the event that brought together six nations. The other participants were Namibia, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe Select XI and South Africa Select XI.

Assistant team coach, Thomas Odoyo said that he was happy with the team’s performance.

“It is a long time since the national side won any trophy. Victory has greatly boosted the team’s morale,” Odoyo said. “The players did well in all the departments, even though the grounds more shorter than what they are used to at home and wickets were flat.”

Odoyo, who is also the Kenya’s under-19 team coach, said that Gurdeep Singh, who was the youngest player in the team, was the only one who qualifies to take part in the continental Under-19 World Cup qualifiers set for January at a venue yet to be released by Africa Cricket Association.

The rest of the team will represent Kenya in the ICC World Cricket League Division Two in Namibia from January 17 to 24.
