Ireland continued their dominance over Kenya when they beat their hosts by six wickets in the first match of their T20 twenty series at the Mombasa Sports Club on Wednesday.
After winning the toss, the tourists opted to field and their trick worked as they restricted Kenya to 107 all out in 19.05 overs, setting themselves an easy target.
George Dokerel, who was judged man-of-the-match, scored 15 runs and had three wickets to his credit.
Tamnay Mishra had what looked like a good afternoon but was caught by John Mooney off Paul Stirling for 34 runs, the best for Kenya. He was closely followed by Ragheb Aga with 25 runs while Rakeeb Patel and Nehemiah Odhiambo had 13 runs each. Ireland had their leading scorer in the one dayers, Ed Joyce, score 24 runs before he was caught and bowled by skipper Collins Obuya.
Teams meet on Thursday
Kevin O’brien and John Mooney had 30 and 16 runs not out respectively as Ireland posted a 109 for four in 15.3 overs. The teams meet again on Thursday afternoon for another encounter before winding up with the last Twenty20 match on Friday.
