Kenya sides post mixed results in women’s T20

Kenya Select on Wednesday proved to be no match to Uganda, who beat them by six wickets in the East Africa Regional Twenty20 women’s tournament at Sir Ali Muslim Club.

Batting first after winning the toss the Kenyan girls only managed to score 84 runs for the loss of four wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Veronicah Abuga with unbeaten 43 was Kenya’s highest runs getter. Jane Achieng (14) and Teresia Wanjiru (10) were the only other batswomen who managed to post double digit figures on the scoreboard.

Joyce Apio was Uganda’s main wicket taker with two wickets for 12. Musamili Riyah (1/10) and Janet Mbabazi (1/21) duly contributed.

In reply, Uganda were home and dry, 87 with six wickets and 44 balls in hand.

TOP SCORED

Kamigisha Sawdat top-scored for Uganda with unbeaten 43. Naone Kagondo (13) and Riyath Musamali (6 not out) also did well with the bat.

Kenya’s wickets were shared between Gloria Kibobye (2/22) and Teresia Wairimu (2/11).

The other match of the day featuring Kenya and Rwanda at the same venue was rained off.

The game was abandoned with Rwanda 50 for 6 in 15 overs, chasing a target of 145 set by Kenya, who won the toss and elected to bat first. 

Kenya won the game by 57 runs through Duckworth-Lewis (D/L) method.

Uganda will face Rwanda Thursday from 9.30 am and in the afternoon, it will be an all-Kenyan affair as the main team will be challenged by the select side.
