Kenyan ladies beat UK at Sikh Union

Kenya’s women’s cricket team beat the touring United Kingdom Armed Forces (Ukaf) Ladies by 72 runs at the Sikh Union ground on Tuesday.

Batting first, Kenya set a target of 241 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 40 overs.

The ever green all-rounder, Queentor Aoko, sparkled with the bat and was two runs shy of a century. Her 98 came off 99 deliveries with 14 boundaries and was Kenya’s highest runs getter. She also did well with the ball, taking two wickets for 32.

Aoko shared a first wicket partnership of 68 with Mary Wambui (21). Esther Wangari (37 off 29 balls with three boundaries), Faith Mwende (26 off 25 balls with three Boundaries) and Brenda Mogusu (18 off 20 balls with two boundaries) were the only batters who posted double digit figures on the scoreboard.

Visitors’ wicket takers were Lou Worsfold (2/39), Kirsty Gavillet (1/42), Shivanie Patel (1/47), Hazelle Garton (1/26) and Mel Vaggers (1/50).

In reply, the tourists scored 168 for 9 in their allotted overs. Georgie Cant top scored for the side with 35 off 68 balls with a boundary. Worfold (28 off 26 balls with four boundaries), Vaggers (26 off 44 balls with three boundaries) were the batters who did well with the bat.

Kenya’s other wicket takers were Mako Wako (2/22), Wambui (2/32) and Mwende (1/6).
