Ton-up Obanda leads Swamibapa past Obuya Academy

Swamibapa’s opening batsman, Alex Obanda,on Sunday blasted a scintillating century to lead his side to a 111 runs victory over Obuya Academy in a Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association Super League match at Sir Ali Muslims Club.

The win earned Swamibapa 16 points while Obuya Academy went home pointless.

Obanda’s ton, 119, came of 56 deliveries with eight boundaries and nine towering sixes. He was Swamibapa’s highest runs get.

The game was reduced from 50 to 20 overs and was played after lunch break as the wicket was dump following heavy rains that hit most of parts of the country on Saturday.

Put in to bat first Swamibapa scored 196 in their allotted 20 overs for the loss of two wickets. 

FLYING START

Swamibapa was given a flying start by their opening pair of Obanda and Krishna Babu  (37 of 30 balls with five boundaries) who put on an opening partnership of 74.

Obanda also shared a second wicket stand of 113 with Irfan Karim, who was unbeaten on 20.

In reply, the Academy could only manage to post 85 with four wickets in hand by the time they completed their 20 overs. Charles Obuya top scored for the side with 37 that came off 51 balls with four boundaries and two sixes.

He top scored for the side. His younger brother, David (25 off 37 balls) was the only other batsman who posted double digit figures on the scoreboard.

Swamibapa’s left arm spinner, Jadavji “Malindi’ Bhimji plundered three wickets for 17. Lameck Onyango (1/14), Naman Patel (1/7) and Babu (1/24) were the other wicket takers.
