Swamibapa handed Stray Lions their first defeat in the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association Twenty20 league. Swamibapa won the encounter by four runs at Peponi School at the weekend.

Although the win catapulted Swamibapa to the top of super league table, they still have to fight it out with the Lions in the play-offs for number one and two at the Nairobi Gymkhana next Sunday.

Swamibapa’s team manager Peter Ong'ondo has high hopes of his team clinching the trophy this season.

He said: “Defending champions, Kanbis, and Sikh Union are the only teams that have been giving us problems. This time round we were lucky because Sikh Union were eliminated in the preliminary rounds. We might meet with Kanbis in the final.

EARN BONUS POINTS

“Lions have one more game against Nairobi Gymkhana, but even if they win, they would only tie with us (Swamibapa) if they earn bonus points against their opponents.

Therefore, that leaves Swamibapa and the Lions to fight it out in the play-offs,” added Ong'ondo.

According to the coach, the winner of the play-offs between Swamibapa and the Lions will qualify for the final, while  the loser will meet the winner of the game between Kanbis and Nairobi Gymkhana.

The victorious team will sail to the final set for February 21 at Nairobi Gymkhana.

Kanbis has dominated the game of cricket in Nairobi for over a decade. It has the best fielding side in the county and their fighting spirit has attracted admiration.

After the Twenty20 league will come the 40 overs event next month in which Swamibapa are defending champions.
