Stima bundle Leopards out of GOtv Shield tourney

Western Stima thumped AFC Leopards 3-0 to bag a quarter-final slot in the GOtv Shield tournament.

In the encounter at Moi Stadium Kisumu on Saturday, Kennedy Otieno’s brace and Wesley Kemboi’s superb volley condemned the Leopards.

The 2013 winners Ingwe were no match for Henry Omino- coached Stima. Leopards fell behind in the 17th minute when Kemboi tapped in Otieno’s cross.

Ingwe midfield maestro Bernard Mang’oli and forward Andrew Tololwa missed the target.

Things got thick for Ivan Minnaert’s charges when Brian Marita’s cross was nodded in by Otieno in the 33rd minute.

After the break, Minnaert brought in Alfred Wekesa for Tololwa, Yusuf Suf for Allan Katarega and Chresten Mwanzo for John Ndirangu to no avail. At the hour mark Otieno completed his brace.

Omino praised his side as his counterpart Minnaert refused to make a comment.

Enosh Ochieng’ was the toast of the day for Ulinzi Stars as he scored a hat-trick to beat Chemelil Sugar 3-1 in another GOtv Shield clash at Afraha Stadium Nakuru on Saturday.

Moments after the final whistle by referee Willis Otieno, the 24-year soldier received a hug from his wife, Emma Owuor, on the touchline.

“I dedicate my goals to my wife who has been my number one supporter,” said Ochieng’.

The striker who was undoubtedly the man of the match started his goal rush a quarter of an hour into the game when he fired past goalkeeper Samuel Odhiambo. Ochieng’ added another for Ulinzi to lead 2-0 halftime. His capped a good show with a 68th minute header.
