Kenyan Premier League giants AFC Leopards turn 50 on Wednesday.

And as part of the plans to celebrate the team’s golden jubilee, the club has planned several activities starting with a Sh5,000-a-plate dinner at a Nairobi hotel tomorrow.

Other activities planned by the club to celebrate the team’s 50-year anniversary include a one-hour documentary titled ‘In the Footprints’ set to be released next month.

The documentary details the club’s achievements since its formation in 1964.

There is also a planned release of books that detail the club’s progress, among them On the Prowl (May), Ingwe Marathon (June) before the club’s open day in June followed by the club’s fashion show in August.

PLANNED TOURNAMENT

Club officials also plan a tournament dubbed Ingwe Super Cup in December.

While releasing the programme of events yesterday, club acting CEO Richard Ekhalie said Leopards will seek to partner with various stakeholders to make the celebrations successful.

The club plans to build solid structures under a programme dubbed ‘Tujipange’.

At the same time, the much-awaited mid-week league match between Gor Mahia and Tusker FC scheduled for Thursday at Nairobi’s City Stadium has been postponed.

Kenya Premier League CEO, Jack Oguda, said the game has been postponed to March 26, with hosts Gor set to confirm the venue.
“We have rescheduled the Gor Mahia versus Tusker match since they (Gor Mahia) will not be able to arrive in time from Tunisia for their CAF Champions League assignment,” Oguda said.

Heavy rains led to the postponement of Gor Mahia’s second leg first round match against Esperance in Rades on Sunday. Esperance yesterday won the rescheduled match 5-0 for an 8-2 aggregate.

Leopards were also bundled out in the first round of the Caf Confederation Cup on Sunday after a 4-2 aggregate loss to South Africa’s SuperSport United.
