Kenyan Premier League defending champions Tusker FC had an unlucky outing in their mid-week encounter after they were beaten 1-0 by Western Stima at Kakamega’s Bukhungu Stadium on Wednesday.

Tusker coach Sammy Omollo conceded after the final whistle that his boys had failed impress in the game despite creating several scoring opportunities.

The woes for Tusker in the match were compounded by a missed penalty taken by Noah Abich 10 minutes to end of the match.

Insult to injury

Stima custodian Ekasiba Ben Roberts easily parried the shot after Abich appeared to falter in his steps before taking the spot kick.

To add insult to injury, Tusker were reduced to 10 men after Isaack Otieno was send off by referee Amos Wanjala for punching Shimonyo during a tussle for the ball in the extra minutes of the match.

“We were just off the mark and deserved to lose because we failed to make an impression in the game,” said coach Omollo.

Disjointed attack

After a drab goalless first half, second half substitute Nelson Simwa Stima slotted in an easy shot after a free kick was floated towards goal by Frederick Shimonyo in the 51th minute.

Tusker displayed a disjointed attack upfront with Joseph Emeka and Paul Were piling pressure but failing to find the back of the net.

In the second half, coach Omollo brought on Patrick Kagogo in place of Joseph Emaka, and Kenneth Wendo for Ndege Obadiah but the substitutions failed to add punch in their strategy.

Stima coach Henry Omino was jubilant, saying he boys had played well and deserved to win.
