A goal in each half by Mercy Achieng enabled champions, Thika Queens FC beat hosts Mombasa Olympic Ladies 2-1 in Kenya women’s Premier League match at Mbaraki Sports Club on Sunday.

Achieng was on the mark in the fourth minute and returned to give the visitors the match winner in the 60th minute.

Thika Queens head coach, Benta Achieng, was happy with the victory. “We came to Mombasa to collect the three points and my players played as per my expectations,” said Achieng.

She said her team will step up training ahead of second leg matches as they seek to retain the title. “We’ve a strong team and we are confident of winning the league crown,” she added.

Olympic’s assistant coach, Mussa Ahmed, rued wasted chances by his team. “My players failed to use the scoring opportunities they got and that cost us the game,” said a dejected Ahmed.
