Why me? Adebayor lashes out at his own family on Facebook

A majority of consumers of the consistent theatre that is otherwise referred to as the English Premier League are all too familiar with one Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor.

For those that are not, he is one of the most experienced players in the competition, currently attached to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

In Togo three decades ago, Adebayor or simply “Ade” to his peers, boasts a handsome return of 150 - plus goals in about double that number of appearances, amassed through featuring as a striker for some of the biggest sporting entities in the world namely; Arsenal and Mancheser City in England, alongside Real Madrid (Spain).

These exploits have since been accompanied by fame and fortune. Conservatives estimates by the richest.com website suggest he pocketed some Sh5 billion in wages alone in 2012 and 2013 alone, during his spell at Manchester City.

This fortune has since earned him several haters by the man’s very own admission. Some of whom are much closer to him than you might think. In tales that have since left most of his followers gobsmacked, Adebayor posted an emotional ordeal of his run-ins with family members on social media site Facebook on Tuesday evening.

The events sounded like a movie produced from the latest Nollywood script.

The player accuses his siblings and mother of among other things of “only wanting money from him” and failing to show him affection especially after working hard to provide each one of them a decent living.

“At the age of 17 with my first wages as a footballer, I built a house for my family and made sure they are safe,” he says

“A couple of years ago, I bought a house in East Lagon (Ghana) for $1.2 million, (Sh114m) and found it normal to let my older sister, Yabo Adebayor and half brother Daniel stay in it.

“A few months later, I was on vacation and decided to go in that house. At my surprise, I saw many cars in the driveway. In fact my sister decided to rent the house without me knowing. She also kicked Daniel out of the house,” the player claims.

Adebayor also accuses his brother Kola who resides in Germany of misusing an unknown amount of money he gave him to start a business.

The player suggests that Kola had no reason to spend because he offsets most of his expenses including paying school fees for his children.

Renowned preacher T.B Joshua was also dragged into this messy family affair with Adebayor insisting his mother went back on arrangement to travel to Nigeria and meet the man of God for “consultations” despite the trip from Lome having been fully facilitated.

Adebayor also accuses his other brother Rotimi of stealing in the 477-word Facebook post, saying “I made sure my brother Rotimi gets into a football academy in France. Within a few months; out of 27 players, he stole 21 phones.”

The player goes further to claim he was denied a chance to see another of his ailing brother Peter who has since died with the family urging him to instead “send the money”. Adebayor believes his family has already shared out his wealth incase he dies while the very same members have also asked him to “build each one of them a decent house” as one way of solving the family problems.

Reminds me of that soap opera titled the rich also cry.
