Dreadlocked Ugandan import Allan Kateregga made all the difference as AFC Leopards claimed a hard fought 1-0 win against Sony Sugar at Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday.

At the same venue earlier in the day, two late second half goals by Nigerian import Onwudi Chibueze and Eugene Mukangula earned Thika United a shock 2-0 win over rusty Mathare United.

At Chemelil Sports Complex, visiting Kakamega Homeboyz inflicted a 1-0 loss to Chemelil Sugar with Charles Momanyi scoring the all-important goal.

At Moi Stadium in Kisumu, Western Stima and Posta Rangers fought to a dour barren draw.

At Nyayo, Leopards needed just three minutes to claim the goal that settled the contest.

Leopards skipper Bernard Mang’oli delivered a neat corner kick in the area and Kateregga rose hight to pick his spot with a glanced header past the sugar millers’ goalie Timothy Odhiambo.

Sony could have pulled back the goal nine minutes after the break but Valen Mahero could only stare in frustration as his thunderous effort crashed on the cross bar.

THIKA STUN MATHARE

Thika on the other hand left it late, with the game bursting to life in the last 11 minutes when the tireless Chibueze made the most of a half chance from down the left flank.

Having made a run to the far left for a loose ball, and Mathare goalie Wycliffe Kasaya advancing for a challenge, Chibueze lobbed the ball to the far right corner of the net. It was Chibueze's first Premier League goal.

Before the dust could settle, the "Slum Boys" were caught napping once again.

Mukangula showed good ball anticipation to volley home with his dreaded left foot.
