Kenyan international Allan Wanga hopes to win his first regional club title with El Merreikh after he was named in the 20-man squad for the Cecafa Kagame Club championships in Kigali between August 8 and 24.

It will be the first time Wanga is playing in the championship and his ambition is to add a regional club medal to the national title he won with the Harambee Stars last year when he captained the national team to lifting the Senior Challenge Cup.

“I am excited to be in the team. I want to give my best to help my team to lift the title. It will be very fulfilling if we win because it will add to the medal I already have with the national team,” Wanga said.

Wanga, who moved to the Khartoum side from Kenyan Premier League giants AFC Leopards a few weeks ago, has already scored for his new club in the Sudanese league.

El Merreikh will consist of four other foreign players including Ugandan teenager Salim Omar Magoola, Malian forward Mohamed Traore, Serge Pascal Wawa of Cote d’Ivoire. The other foreigner in the team is veteran Egyptian Ayman Said Mohammed Ali.

El Mereikh has won regional title twice – in 1986 and 1994.
