What you need to know:

  • Asembo, an outspoken official who navigated his way to FKF offices following the suspension of the elected vice-chairman, was in court for Tuesday’s case. Trouble started after court was adjourned to Thursday.
  • Seething with rage, the fans confronted him. Sensing danger, Asembo didn’t want to play Rambo! He knew better. And so he took to his heels as the fans gave chase, baying for his blood. Luckily, he sneaked out via the rear gate.
  • In  2011, at  the Nairobi City Stadium, during AFC Leopards’ match against Posta Rangers, he  found himself in a similar situation alongside the then Leopards chairman Julius Ochiel.

It was yet another unpredictable day in the adventures of one Robert Asembo.

The Football Kenya Federation vice chairman found himself in a familiar, but rather uncomfortable situation in Nairobi on Tuesday.

The theatre was Milimani Law Courts and the drama was directed by local football fans angered by the stand-off between FKF and KPL.

Asembo, an outspoken official who navigated his way to FKF offices following the suspension of the elected vice-chairman, was in court for Tuesday’s case. Trouble started after court was adjourned to Thursday.

The fans were unhappy with the judge’s directive (that the two parties settle their dispute out of court) and blamed the impasse on FKF.

Then, like a toad out of water, Asembo showed up. And just like that, the fans decided ‘to act’.

Asembo might have underestimated them, may be even thinking: “Eeh... I’m a lawyer and this is my turf. I’ll find my way out.” Ooh, how wrong he was.

Seething with rage, the fans confronted him. Sensing danger, Asembo didn’t want to play Rambo! He knew better. And so he took to his heels as the fans gave chase, baying for his blood. Luckily, he sneaked out via the rear gate.

This is not the first time Asembo is finding himself in trouble with football fans. In  2011, at  the Nairobi City Stadium, during AFC Leopards’ match against Posta Rangers, he  found himself in a similar situation alongside the then Leopards chairman Julius Ochiel.

The duo had gone to watch the match, just hours after their defeat in bitterly-contested club elections won by Alex Ole Magelo, now Nairobi County Assembly Speaker.
