Bandari centre-half Shariff Mohamed is the winner of the SportPesa/SJAK Player of the Month for March.

The soft-spoken defender claimed the gong after getting 30 points to floor his closest challenger, Nairobi City Stars’ skipper Oscar Mbugua - who bagged 26 points from the panellists while Muhoroni Youth striker, Wycliffe Ochomo missed out for the second month running after coming third on 19 points.

Red-hot AFC Leopards striker Kepha Aswani and his teammate Lucas Indeche tied at fourth place with 15 points apiece.

Though the dockers have not had the best of runs so far, Mohamed was picked for the crucial role he played at the Bandari’s defence clocking 90 minutes as his side kept two consecutive clean sheets in identical 1-0 wins over Sofapaka and Sony Sugar.

He also featured prominently in the 1-1 draw against Ulinzi Stars and in the 0 -1 defeat to Leopards. At Bandari, Mohamed has formed a good understanding with fellow centre-half Felly Mulumba.

“I’m grateful for the award, but I attribute it to the entire team because I can’t do it alone,” said Mohammed.

“It is my first award at the top level and my aim is to work hard to help the team realise its dream. I’m happy here and I believe in the management. With hard work, we can win the league.”

For his heroics, he took home a trophy, Sh100,000 and a 43-inch LG-TV set while an additional Sh50,000 went to the team courtesy of sponsors.

He is the second player this term to claim the individual accolade after Posta Rangers’ Timothy Otieno last month.
