Bandari fault packed fixtures

Bandari have said that the congested fixtures are taking a toll on their travel-weary players.

Club secretary Edward Oduoron Wednesday said the short periods in between games, the road travelling coupled with the constant jam experienced on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway has made it impossible for his players to have enough resting time in between fixtures, thus affecting their recovery.

On the 1-0 loss to Kariobangi Sharks at Kenyatta Stadium, Oduor said they travelled immediately after playing against Nzoia Sugar in Mombasa and only arrived at Machakos hours before the kick-off.

“We left Mombasa on Friday Morning but due to the traffic jam, we were reaching Machakos at midnight thus giving the players no time to rest ahead of the Kariobangi Sharks game which we lost 1-0," Oduor said.

The former Harambee Stars team manager said his players have been picking unnecessary injuries because of the fatigue saying if not corrected in time, many players will burnout before the season ends.

Striker Jacob Keli for example he said was injured during the match against Sharks and will have to be out for three weeks before returning to full action.

According to Odour, Bandari players had to remain in Nairobi for the whole week ahead of the match against Zoo Kericho set for this Saturday in Kericho.

“We have been training in Nairobi the whole week and believe the rest we have had in Nairobi will impact positively on the players in Kericho in a match we have to win to stay within touching distance of the leaders," he said.

Oduor wants the fixtures committee to consider staggering matches to allow for quality football as opposed to now when teams are just playing to honour the fixtures.
