Bandari made a remarkable start to the 2016 season when they edged league champions Gor Mahia 1-0 to win the DStv SuperSport Cup at Mbaraki Sports Club, Mombasa on Saturday.

It was Anthony Kimani who gave the home team the match winner in the 67th minute against a 10-man Gor.

K’Ogalo played a man less for 51 minutes after their defender Haron Shakava was sent off for dangerous play.

Bandari captain Wilson Obungu said after the match that he was happy with the result and the victory would give them morale to do well against St Eloi Lupopo next Sunday in their Confederation Cup preliminary round match.

“We are now looking forward to training for Lupopo and I’m confident we can win,” he said.

Gor with their coach Frank Nuttall present on the bench despite the confusion surrounding his sacking and reinstatement within a 24-hour period, had an upper hand in the first half where they raided their opponent’s goal repeatedly.

However, Bandari’s defence of Mohamed Shariff, Duncan Otewa and new signing from Sofapaka, Felly Mulumba held firm.

Gor could have taken the lead in the 22nd minute when a one-two between Godfrey Walusimbi and Enock Agwanda resulted in George Odhiambo sending a powerful shot that was brilliantly saved by Obungu.

Obungu was called on again to make a daring save from Collins Okoth effort in the 35th minute off Jacob Keli’s fine cross. The Bandari goalie punched another hard shot out from Gor midfielder Luke Ochieng at the stroke of half time.

In the second half, Bandari came back a more organised team.
