A barren stalemate was the outcome of the nervy encounter between defending champions Gor Mahia and Ushuru at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.

In the other high profile match played in Machakos, Chemelil Sugar showed resilience to hold table leaders Tusker 2-2.

Strugglers Sofapaka collected one point from Kakamega Homeboyz as they settled for a 1-1 draw away in Mumias.

Bandari’s poor performance continued to play out at the Awendo Green Stadium where they lost by a solitary goal to Sony Sugar.

Posta Rangers were handed yet another reality check as they lost 2-1 to Muhoroni Youth in Muhoroni. K’Ogalo had come as heavy favourites, but were repeatedly tested by the adventurous home team.

It was a match that was marred by controversial officiating, and referee Peter Waweru found himself needing protection from the stewards as he walked off the pitch.

Luke Ochieng', who had started in place of the more regular Harun Shakava in the Gor defence, found it difficult to solidify the centre back position and was guilty of exposing goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch a number of times.

Lamine Diallo was at the centre of Ushuru’s first chance in the fifth minute with a long shot parried out by Gor custodian Oluoch for a fruitless corner.

POWERFUL SHOT

In the 39th minute, Jacques Tuyisenge shook the side netting with a powerful shot. Diallo drew out some amazing goal keeping skills from Oluoch in the 40th minute.

George Odhiambo was removed for Baron Oketch at the start of the second half as Gor made a desperate attempt to turn the game. But it was not to be.

In Muhoroni, the home side were the deserved 2-1 winners in a pulsating tie.

Joseph Nyaga gave Posta Rangers the early lead in the 30th minute after he was set up by Dennis Mukaisi.

Wycliffe Nyangechi levelled matters in the 40th minute curling in a free kick from 23 yards after former Tusker defender Joackins Atudo had fouled Lwamba Bebeto.

Before the mail men could settle, Omanga pounced on a rebound to make it 2-1 just before the break.

Atudo had earlier brought in a nice counter attack setting up Mukaisi.

The home team started the game well dominating proceedings before Rangers stabilized to take the lead.
