Football Kenya Federation Electoral Board will on Monday morning vet delegates who will be vying for various posts in the upcoming national elections at the Zetech University’s Stanbank Campus in Nairobi.

The FKF Appeals Board is also expected to deliver rulings on three cases that were brought before them following the branch elections held two weeks ago, before giving the way forward on the last stage of the polls.

There will however be repeat elections on Monday in Mt Kenya and North West Rift branches where there were ties.

The board has now stated that if the process ends in another tie, the winner will be determined by a toss of a coin.

The national polls are scheduled for Wednesday. Some 78 delegates are expected to turn up at a yet to be disclosed venue to vote for the next FKF national office.

Confirming these developments, board secretary Irene Tindi admitted that they are fighting in-house supremacy battles and facing serious financial challenges.

But she promised that the national polls will not be delayed any further.

“In every relationship there has to be challenges, and we have decided that our challenges will not derail us from giving Kenyans what they deserve.

“We shall do everything in our power to ensure that the elections end on February 10 as scheduled, and I promise that the process will be credible,” she said.

THREATENED TO QUIT

On Friday, board treasurer David Mereka had threatened to quit citing the lack of leadership, the interference of the whole electoral process and deep division within the board, but he has since rescinded his decision following the intervention of other board members.

The list of delegates was published on the board’s website (fkfelections.com) in accordance to the law, and the 78 persons designated to cast their votes that will determine the country’s football leadership for the next four years are expected at Zetech Nairobi on Monday morning for verification.

The 20 FKF branches will be represented by two delegates each (chairman and secretary), while all the chairmen of the 16 Kenyan Premier League clubs will also vote.

The lower division clubs will be represented by 18 delegates, six each from the FKF Premier League, the National Super Leagues and the Division One league.

Tindi confirmed that the women’s representatives as well as the elite players’ representatives will also be eligible to vote, although the identity of these representatives is yet to be disclosed.

Veterans Bob Oyugi and Wycliffe Ogutu will vote on behalf of coaches and referees respectively.

Nick Mwenda, Ambrose Rachier and incumbent Sam Nyamweya are considered the frontrunners for the position of the federation’s president.
