Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson Monday handed a chance to 15 youthful players ahead of the team’s friendly match away to Egypt this weekend.

The former Uganda Cranes and Gor Mahia trainer, who officially took charge of the national team Monday, also offered fresh chances to two Kenya Premier League stars Humphrey Mieno and Jesse Were, who were overlooked by former coach Adel Amrouche.

“It is unfortunate I won’t be able to stay here but I now have a chance to concentrate on my new job, hopefully develop talent and draw a serious plan for Kenyan football,” Williamson told journalists on Sunday evening, immediately after his final match at Gor Mahia against Sony Sugar.

NATIONS CUP QUALIFIER

El Merreikh striker Allan Wanga, who scored the only goal that ensured his team win the Cecafa Kagame Cup on Sunday is alongside David Gateri and Anthony Akumu the only foreign based players in the squad.

“The press will be invited to training on Thursday, we leave for Egypt on Friday,” Williamson responded to an inquiry on the team’s itinerary through a text message.

Kenya is set to play Egypt at the 20,000-seater Aswan Stadium in Aswan City, some 700km north of the Egyptian capital Cairo on Saturday. The north African nation will be using this match as warm-up for the 2015 Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Senegal on September 5.
