Former SportPesa Premier League (SPL) side Nairobi City Stars thrashed FC Talanta 4-1 in a National Super League (NSL) match played at Camp Toyoyo grounds on Saturday.

In an early kick-off, Ushuru edged visiting Agrochemicals 3-1 at the same venue. Nelson Marasowe broke the deadlock from a penalty spot in the 28th minute before Ushuru’s Jackton Onjala scored in his own net in the 38th minute.

Ushuru restored their lead through former Tusker striker Andrew Murunga four minutes before the break. Substitute Billy Oporia scored the third a minute to full time to take the side’s points tally to 57 from 27 games.

In Thika, Bidco United and Ezekiel Akwana-led Nakuru AllStars battled to a goalless draw as Nairobi Stima beat Modern Coast Rangers 2-0 in Naivasha.

Patrick Ndwiga and Victor Ochami grabbed a goal apiece each in the 76th and 81st minute to aid the side jump to third spot on 56 points.

Alex Waiswa’s brace against KCB could not help Palos overcome the visitors at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu, with the Leonard Saleh-coached bankers emerging 3-2 winners.

BLACK STARS STUN VIHIGA

Frank Ouna’s Wazito were 2-1 victors over hosts Isibania in Awendo and in Mumias, Kibera Black Stars recorded their second consecutive win at the venue with a 2-1 win over league leaders Vihiga United.

Vihiga remain atop of the standings with 58 points similar to second placed KCB who have an inferior goal difference.

Back at Camp Toyoyo, City Stars had a brilliant start with a first minute goal from Davis Agesa. They totally outplayed Talanta in the opening 30 minutes where they controlled proceedings.

Former AFC Leopards and KCB man Peter Wainaina floated in a cross in the 29th minute that Agesa easily converted for the team’s second goal. Agesa completed his hat trick in the 33rd minute, heading from John Kamau’s cross.

Talanta coach John Kamau tried to change tactic with an early substitution in the 35th minute, pulling out Kelvin Ndung’u for Kenneth Githinji but the damage had already been done.

Eric Kapaito’s 57th minute shot was blocked by City Stars custodian Emmanuel Opiyo, but Talanta striker could not be denied in the 84th minute.

OCHIENG STRIKES

Former AFC Leopards forward Victor Ochieng’ completed the rout with a goal deep into added time.

“I am very pleased with the boys’ display. Today’s match was crucial having lost the previous two,” said City Stars coach Abdulswamad Musafiri.

For Kamau, it was a bad day in office with things not working his way from the first minute.

“Conceding early meant we chase the game from the word go. It’s a match we must forget and focus on the next one. We didn’t just play well the entire team and coming against such an experienced side, we paid for our mistakes,” he said.

City Stars have amassed 38 points, seven ahead of FC Talanta from 27 games.
